Figure Studies (of course)

It's pretty much standard for an art blog to at some point give examples of figure studies. So these are both really recent.

When I was a kid and I drew still life's with my dad I would always add things like pokemon or felix the cat (and other cartoons of course) to my drawings to make the subject matter more interesting for my 5th grade mind. Basically this is a reiteration of that. I got bored and roughly added the eames ball dot pattern to a blank wooden board,

and later added in the unikko pattern to the drawing of the woman there.

think it spices things up more. At least for me it does.

I really considered adding some flat color to the drawings,(for example just coloring one chair a bright yellow) but since it was a pencil drawing I thought it might look a little off... But of course I could have used color pencil instead of marker..

This did make me really want to draw a picture of felix the cat with an Eames designed magic bag.

And now I've said it, so now I have to.

Dick Grayson and the Robins

I'll repost my description of the design here,

My design is Nightwing as a member of a mid 1960's Mod band. I think of them more similar to the Who, or The Kinks, rather than the Byrds or the Monkees.
I tried to combine Nightwing's whole costume history in the design, the tie represents the yellow wing pattern that was on his first two costumes, and the blue tones are also there to reflect that. I decided to go with a grayish purple rather than black for the jacket because the black really washed out the details.
For the Robins I decided to try and represent versions of their different costumes.
I also tried to embody the different personalities in each outfit, Damian was given an edwardian Arthur Rimbaud like style, the green is a lot more subtle.
And Jason's outfit looks kind of like he's trying really hard to be cool, and not pulling it off as well.

The theme for this was Nightwing as a member of a musical group or band.

Naturally I really had no choice but to do a Mod band.

Nobody: The Dream of a Savior

I don't have any fully finished pages up right now, I have some pencils but I don't want to post those until I finish the inks. So here I've decided to post an excerpt from a much later issue. It's a sort of poetic narrative. Of course if I can get this thing published then I'll probably remove this post.

I don't want any spoilers lingering around... not that this really has any.

"There are times,

where I wish I could go back to the days, when my wonder

and my curiosity still stood a chance.

It's been 40 years,

all I have left are dreams and "what could have beens."

I sometimes question my place on this planet,

is this is really where I'm supposed to be?

I dream that among the stars there is somewhere,

absent of war, of terror..

where my existence can feel meaningful,

Where I can live free.

People accuse me of being intelligent,

yet I'm plagued with the same damning questions and thoughts

as any human being..

I am alone.. lurking against the history of a forgotten timeline,

yearning to cling onto something truly beautiful

... something pure, that will bring hope..

the type of hope that can clarify that this has been worth it.

...I'm just a god damned dreamer.

A suburban child grown up with too much attention.

I've been blamed,

I've been praised.

and I swallow it,

and absorb it..

and I wait,

decade after decade..

for an answer."

I haven't sketched out the panels for this yet, really it's just something I've been kicking around. It'll probably be edited again.

Anyway at some point I will post some more artwork from this, I've so far completed about 7 pages of artwork (which really isn't a whole lot)

I'll give a better description of the series when I post the artwork.

30 minute portraits

I was testing out my new pen that my dad gave me, and I came up with the idea to do a ton of portraits. The idea was to just rattle them off based on the first picture In front of me. I gave myself 30 minutes for each one. First is Malcolm Mcdowell Second, Ryuichi Sakamoto Third, Jean Pierre Leaud and fourth Ringo Starr

The main problems I ran into with these were no.1, the pen blots up sometimes so that's why there are a few stray dark spots, and second I got picky with my portrait selection (which went against the original battle plan) I remember at one point it took at least a half hour just to pick out a picture to draw from.

I have a Shane Macgowan portrait lying in waiting but I'll post that after I finish at least three more.

I've been so busy with different art projects from figure drawing homework, blog submissions, and pages of my graphic novel.. But maybe I'll draw a few tonight.
